madapur estate home

Madapur house is an ancestral home in a remote part of Coorg, redesigned to accommodate an urban standard of living while retaining its rustic Coorg charm. The house sits on a leveled hilltop with a view of the running river from the house’s North and Eastern sides, welcoming the rising sun through the balcony that runs through and through – our favorite part of the house!

Originally built in the ’50s the house was renovated twice as it grew with the family. The house plan was transformed from a closed plan to an open plan, letting the house breathe in the extensive landscape it overlooks. The plan kept the grand stone fireplace as the centerpiece of the house, with secondary functions complimenting it. The house was built using stone and fallen trees sourced from the same estate it sits on, creating a design aesthetic that is one with the panoramic views surrounding the house. From high herringbone-patterned wood ceilings and stone arched windows to a state of the art open kitchen, the house is designed as a modern living space that retains all the warmth of a country cottage.

Courtyards, lily ponds, sunroof, and bay-windows are a few of the many design features that bring in light and ventilation to the once deep corners of the house. When the holidays arrive, with visitors in tow, the house transforms into a beautiful holiday home, full and brimming with cheer.
